One of the best things about living in the 9th and 9th/Sugar House area are the local businesses. Yesterday I held a business lunch at Publik Kitchen and I regularly hang out at Sugar House Coffee.
Why do I make a point of spending my dollars at local Salt Lake City businesses? Because they are entrepreneurs just like me. They have put everything on the line to invest in our community and share their passion with the rest of us. Additionally, the vibe at local businesses feels more authentic to our town. It reflects our individual style and needs.
For example, when you shop at Home Depot for plants, you often find varieties that would never do well in Salt Lake City. But head over to a local nursery, and you’ll not only find plants that will thrive, you’ll also have a knowledgeable staff to advise you. Most mega chains started out small too, and I wish them no ill will, yet I prefer to support smaller locally owned establishments.
So where do I spend my dollars locally? Here are a few of my top picks. This list spans past the 9th and 9th/Sugar House area, but not by much.
